Children were among the busiest visitors. Young guests took turns aiming hose lines, with firefighters standing by to steady the nozzle, and others tried carrying a ladder during hands-on activities. Some dressed up in junior firefighter jackets and helmets, while families looked over the department’s apparatus and equipment.
Firefighters also showed visitors what the job requires. In one demonstration, a firefighter in full protective gear and breathing apparatus stood before a crowd of children while a department member explained each piece. The Township of Union Fire Prevention Bureau and the Union Police Department both set up tents at the event.
Firefighters kept the grill going through the afternoon, serving hot dogs to visitors.
Mayor Patricia Guerra-Frazier and other township officials joined the crowd and posed with firefighters for a group photo in front of Union Squad 1.
In a social media post, the township thanked residents and families for coming and thanked the local businesses and partners whose food donations helped make the event a success. It also thanked the fire department for hosting.
